Woodlands Farm

Woodlands Farm was created from a number of fields bought by William Dennis in about 1870. William Dennis, the son of a farm labourer, came to be regarded as an intelligent and clever farmer, particularly in respect of his work with the potato.

He was also a philanthropist (someone who did charity work). For the King's dinner to the poor following the coronation of King Edward VII in 1910, he provided sufficient potatoes to feed all the poor of London. Visitors to Kirton can find his statue standing outside the village hall.

» FARM SHOPPING

Much of the food produced by organic farms is sold to wholesalers or supermarkets. However, farmers are increasingly selling direct to the public.

Buying your food this way supports the farmer and reduces the environmental cost of transporting food.
