Turkeys

Woodlands Farm has a flock of traditional bronze turkeys which are reared for sale at Christmas. Their paddocks have been planted with osiers (a type of willow) and fruit trees to provide the birds with shelter and insects. Given that the turkey is a woodland bird it seemed appropriate they should be based at Woodlands Farm.

  • The birds have access to the paddocks at all times, except at night when they prefer to perch indoors

  • The turkeys are reared in a small groups as this helps reduce the risk of disease.

Free-range birds need protection from predators. Electric fences (to keep out foxes) and trees or covered shelters provide additional shade and security.
