Farm animals

Farmers rear livestock to provide food, clothing and other materials for humans to use, including meat, milk, eggs, wool and leather.

Farmers are responsible for the welfare of their animals and make sure that they are looked after well. They need to attend to their needs, including:

  • Water

  • Food

  • Space and shelter

  • Companionship

  • Freedom to behave naturally.

Organic farming is governed by laws that help ensure that all these needs are met, and the highest standards of welfare are provided. As you walk around the Sheepdrove Farm trail, you can see how the farm is looking after the animals and wildlife.
