Animal farm

Most organic farms (including Rushall) are mixed and therefore offer a great variety of interest to schools and colleges. Animals are an integral part of nearly all visits at KS3 and KS4.

A visit to an organic farm provides an opportunity for students to get close to farm animals in a safe and managed environment. This is an enriching and valuable experience denied to many young people today.

Animals represent an exciting and stimulating subject for discussion and debate at all times, particularly during key events such as lambing and shearing. Through close observation and interaction, students study many issues including husbandry, biology, welfare and marketing. The methods of farming animals organically may be contrasted with non-organic methods.

» COMMENT:

"Delivery was professional and touched many key curriculum areas. Safety, enjoyment and an appreciation of the countryside were central concerns."
