Farming as an economic activityAt KS3 and KS4 many schools teach farming as a system, using the framework of inputs, processes and outputs. Students visiting Rushall Farm examine the significance of machines within this context, considering their role in terms of input and process. By looking at a range of farm machinery in situ, students are able to relate different machines with the different jobs done on the farm throughout the year. At first hand they can clearly see the role that machines play in almost all areas of modern farming. Students are challenged to consider the implications of such a reliance
on machines. These include effect on yields and food prices, environmental
impact and sustainability, and labour force and rural employment. |

"The planning of the day was exceptional and the staff enthusiastic and accommodating. "All in all it has become an essential part of our year eight programme of study."
