Despite Devon's high rainfall, Riverford needs extra water to successfully grow a range of crops through the summer months. This photo shows the biggest of four reservoirs on the farm which feed a network of pipes irrigating (watering) the main vegetable fields.

In the summer you can see dragonflies and damsel flies hovering over the water. Swallows dip their beaks in the water to drink while still flying.
