Sheep

Sheep are alternated with the cattle on the lush pastures, they do not normally feed together. The farm has a flock of 650 breeding ewes (female sheep). The names of some of the breeds of sheep are Scottish blackface, Shetland and crossbreeds.

If the farmer kept sheep or cows in the same field for too long, there would be a build up of parasites and diseases and the animals would become sick. But because sheep and cows are not affected by the same types of parasites and diseases, it is safe to swap them during the year. So, cattle may graze the pastures first, followed by sheep.
