Organic cows

The farm has 120 Holstein Friesian dairy cows. They are milked twice a day in the parlour and you can see this taking place in the café viewing gallery.

  • The cows graze outside on the grass and clover pastures between April and October

  • During the winter they live indoors and are fed silage made from grass cut in the summer

  • Clover helps organic farmers add nutrients in the absence of artificial fertiliser.

Organic farms have high animal welfare rules which mean that farm animals are given the opportunity to express their natural behaviour. They have access to the outdoor environment and are truly free range.
