Welsh black cattle

Pedigree Welsh black cattle have been re-introduced on the farm to graze the ffridd (lower slopes) and parts of the mountain. The cattle will help improve the wild flora in the sward (grass covered land) and also provide quality meat which is available through the innovative home-delivery scheme.

  • The cattle will be run as a suckler herd. This means that the calves stay with their mothers until they are weaned at about nine months old

  • Native breeds of cattle have been reared to suit the conditions and climate of their locality. Welsh blacks thrive on the hill pastures and windswept mountains of Wales where some lowland breeds would require brought-in feed to supplement their diets.
