Stone walls

Stone walls are the traditional way of enclosure in the uplands – to keep livestock in or out of the fields. Although they look barren, they do provide wonderful homes and shelter for a range of plants and animals. They are also an important feature of the landscape and the National Trust has embarked on a wall restoration programme at Hafod y Llan.

  • The farm is restoring five kilometres of walling. That would take one person on their own, working full time for ten years.
