The dry valley

This beautiful hidden valley was probably carved in the ice age but today no river can be seen. This calcareous grassland is rich in wildflowers, with cowslips in the spring and bee orchids in the summer. It also provides nesting opportunities for farmland birds including skylark and lapwing.

  • The combination of no artificial fertilisers or pesticides and the lower stocking rates employed by organic farming helps preserve this delicate habitat for wild flora and fauna.

» DID YOU KNOW?

Organic farming helps provide habitats for wildlife. Birds, bats and beetles make their homes in and around fields (field margins), in hedgerows and trees.
