Dairy cows

Abbey Home Farm has a herd of 150 dairy cows (cows kept for their milk). School groups can see the cows, the parlour where they are milked, and have a go at milking 'Daisy' the cow themselves. The cows are black and white and are called 'Freisan' cows.

  • Dairy cows produce milk after giving birth to a calf.

  • Organic cows produce milk from a mainly grass-based diet and the feeding of concentrated feed is limited.
