Farm Shop and Cafe

Farm shop and café

The farm shop and café are at the heart of Abbey Home Farm. All the food sold is 100% organic and much of it is grown on the farm itself. By shopping at the farm shop, you can buy fresh, local organic food direct from the farmer. This avoids the environmental costs of transporting food – or what is known as ‘food miles’.

  • The term ‘food miles’ relates to the distance food travels between the farm and the dinner table. This can be a huge distance for products such as apples from New Zealand and can be harmful to the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Food miles are reduced by buying local food.

The average distance travelled by the food in an average supermarket trolley is 3000 miles (that's over three and a half times the length of Britain).
